Arts & Culture in The High Country

Published: December 13, 2021

It goes without saying that Summit County is an outdoor adventurer’s paradise, packed with endless year-round activities and gorgeous views. However, many of our clients who purchase Summit County, CO real estate are pleasantly surprised when they discover that our community receives regular recognition as one of the artsiest small towns in America.

One of our favorite local places to partake in the arts is the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center, home to the highly regarded Lake Dillon Theatre Company (LDTC), which has been entertaining and providing cultural learning opportunities to residents and visitors for over 25 years. It was also recently recognized as a Best of Summit winner.

Here you can enjoy theater, concerts, and seminars year-round, among a wide variety of additional programs. The Lake Dillon Theatre Co. is well-known for putting on classic productions you know and love as well as original plays for a new experience. The Silverthorne Performing Arts Center also regularly hosts performances and fundraisers by other organizations.

History:

According to their website, the Lake Dillon Theatre Co. was incorporated in March of 1993 to raise funds for a capital expansion project for the Lake Dillon Amphitheater along with efforts to bring a summer concert series to the community (now the Sunset at the Summit Concert Series). After initial success, the LDTC grew to encompass a chamber concert series and the Youth Theatre Workshop (a youth educational program), along with an amateur theatre company that has since turned pro!

Since 2010, the organization has grown from a small, seasonal community theatre to a successful professional theatre company that puts on productions and performances year-round. Its growth has only made the Lake Dillon Theatre Co. an even bigger pillar of the Summit County community.

Thanks to a drastic increase in season pass holders and donations, and ongoing partnerships with local groups like The Summit Foundation, the LDTC is perhaps the most well-known and well-attended year-round arts company in Summit County.

Community Commitment:

“The Lake Dillon Theatre Co. is such a welcoming organization, and we offer really high-caliber, entertaining and professional theater,” Artistic Director Chris Alleman recently told The Summit Daily. “I think those two things make the theater company a great indoor activity for locals and visitors. Plus, with our robust and popular youth activities, there really is something for every age almost year-round.”

Alleman added that a primary goal of the LDTC is to ensure that every member is treated like family.

“We always hope everyone is comfortable and happy to be seeing a show at the Theatre Company, no matter what the show may be.”

After an unfortunate hiatus on indoor performances during COVID, local patrons realize the importance of having such an incredible option for live entertainment in Summit: the performance schedule is back in action, and shows have been well-attended. (COVID safety precautions are still being followed for live events). The LDTC was also recently named Best Performing Arts Groups.

The Lake Dillon Theatre Co. is usually found at the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center, which is conveniently located at 460 Blue River Parkway. Some workshops and events may be located at other venues and areas throughout Summit County. Click here to view upcoming programs and performances.
