Life In Summit County, CO: The Mountains Are Calling

Published: December 13, 2021

Here at Real Estate of the Summit, we offer listings ranging from cozy ski condos to mega mountain mansions. Each client has different needs, dreams, and desires, which is why you’ll find a wide variety of Summit County property listings on our website. Each one of those abodes features its own unique list of amenities. However, there is one amenity we guarantee to each and every buyer who chooses to make Summit County their home – and we believe it falls into the luxury category: the great outdoors.

Whether or not you opt for a home gym is your prerogative (and many of our clients have done exactly that as a result of the COVID pandemic). Rest assured, though, that when you choose to live in Colorado’s Playground, you will never go without access to a place to ski, snowboard, hike, bike, snowshoe, skin, sled, snowmobile, paddleboard, or any other outdoor activity your heart desires.

Looking to dabble in a new category of outdoor adventure? You’ve come to the right place. Our tight-knit community has fostered the ultimate atmosphere of outside-enthusiasts. Here in Summit, there’s always a club or group to join for even the most obscure outdoor sports, like snow biking or paraglide skiing. When it comes to pushing your comfort zone and going “extreme,” the options are plentiful, and there’s always more than a friendly face to usher you into your next passion. (Solo adventurers need not worry, though, as our unlimited outdoor spaces make independent excursions an effortless endeavor. There’s always a trail or path to be found unencumbered by crowds).

If “sending it” isn’t your style, there are still unlimited outlets for more traditional outdoor activities – all with an unparalleled view. Once you get bored of all the scenic drives this place has to offer, you’ll find that the entirety of Summit is interconnected by well-kept bike and pedestrian paths and gorgeous trails, idyllic for running, road biking, mountain biking, and dog walking. You can even cycle all the way to Vail without having to worry about street traffic! If competition is what gets your adrenaline pumping, there are endless 5ks, trail races, cycling events, marathons, and more to sign up for year-round.

Many of our clients who relocate here are shocked to discover all that summertime has to offer, but the old adage about Summit County still rings true: people come for the winter but stay for the summer.

The summer months here are unrivaled by anywhere else. Ask any local, and they will happily brag about our 70 degree average high temps, low humidity, and late sunsets. Tis the season for hiking 14ers (our term for peaks over 14,000 ft. in elevation, of which Colorado has 58) and lounging on the beaches of Dillon Reservoir’s multiple waterfronts (Summit’s centrally located “local lake” which offers over five square miles of water and 19 miles of recreational area around the lake, from sandy coastlines to rec paths).

Last but certainly not least is snow. Perhaps our hottest commodity here in the High Country, our average snowfall of 366 inches per year transforms Summit County each season into a winter wonderland that Santa Claus himself would envy. Our four local ski resorts (five, if you include Loveland Pass which sits just outside of the Eisenhower Tunnel) comprise Breckenridge Ski Resort, Keystone Resort, Copper Mountain, and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area.

That equates to thousands upon thousands of skiable acreages ranging from beginner runs to expert terrain – and we aren’t even counting all the backcountry access you don’t need a pass to enjoy. If you’re looking for world-class skiing paired with a place that takes après ski to the next level, look no further. We’ve got it all.

Bottom line: Summit County, Colorado offers an outdoor haven unlike no other. Our 300+ days of annual sunny days mean there’s never a shortage of things to do just outside of your living room. Many residents and homeowners are lucky enough even to call their trail, slope-side, or other-adventure access their “backyard.” If you’re like us and have always heard that call of the mountains, it’s time to give it a call back.

Let Real Estate of the Summit help you realize your goals of living in the ultimate outdoor destination. We don’t just sell dream homes – we sell dream lifestyles.
