Día de Los Muertos

Día de Los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead, is a three day celebration that will take place in the Breckenridge Creative Arts District to honor the lives of those who have passed.  First originating from the indigenous people of Central and South America, Day of the Dead is filled with family, art and traditions.

“Día de Los Muertos is a celebration of life, culture and creativity,” said Robb Woulfe, president of Breck Create, “so we invite everyone to come out and experience the traditions of this colorful holiday, from Aztec dance workshops, to paper flower-making to helping build a celebratory alter to honor loved ones.”

The Día de Los Muertos kick off party will take place Friday, October 23 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  This night will be filled with music, face painting and a cash bar.  The night will also host collector and educator César Muñoz to showcase his Día de Los Muertos installation at the Old Masonic Hall available through the end of October!

A community alter will be on display in the Randall Barn located on the Arts District campus on Saturday, October 24th.  Alters are decorated with candles, flowers, and hold plenty of food and beverage items for the visiting spirits.  Bring photographs of loved ones to place in the communal alter and listen to the live, informative speeches provided in both English and Spanish.
