The Budweiser International Snow Sculpting Championships start off this week!  Also known as the “Stomp/Technical Week” this first week consists of creating and prepping huge blocks of snow.  This allows for a more consistent medium, giving the sculptors the ability to execute their gravity-defying designs.  As you can imagine, this is an extremely important piece to the success of snow sculptures!

During this week (1/18-1/23) visitors and locals alike are invited to watch and even participate in the creation of the huge blocks of snow by literally stomping them out! The enormous blocks of snow are built in anticipation of the artists arrival so that the blocks have time to settle and compact under their own weight prior to being carved.  If you’d like to volunteer, you can do so by calling Sydney Schwab at 970-453-5020 or by email at [email protected].

Technical week wraps up on Saturday, January 23rd in Breckenridge and is being celebrated in the form of a “Block Party.”  There will be a Hazel Miller concert at the Riverwalk Center located at 150 West Adams Ave. Breckenridge, CO 80424.  Stop by and check out the 16 blank blocks prior to being carved and enjoy music by Hazel Miller.  This concert is free and open to the public, doors are at 7:00pm and the show is from 7:30pm-9:30pm.
