Cimarron Mountain Club

Published: November 20, 2017

Have you ever dreamed of having a ski resort all to yourself? Imagine having thousands of acres to use at your sole discretion on a powder day!

Jim Aronstein had that dream and has made it a reality through the creation of Cimarron Mountain Club.

Aronstein owns a remote paradise of snowy couloirs and open glades in the shadow of toothy Cimarron Ridge located on the north end of the San Juan mountain range near Telluride.

Aronstein bought the 1,750-acre former-logging-company parcel of land in 2005 the day after he sold nearly 6,000 acres of mining claims on the back-side of Vail ski area for $32.75 million.

His dream for Cimarron Mountain Club is to carve-out 15 homesites for deep-pocketed and like-minded buyers who will enjoy remote snowcat powder skiing all season long.

Aronstein, a retired natural resources lawyer added that preserving and protecting powder is a part of the business plan.

What Does Cimarron Mountain Club Offer?

Buyers have lined-up to be a part of the unique Cimarron Mountain Club which includes an amenity-heavy, 14,000-square-foot lodge with six suites and three four-bedroom cabins.

Membership is limited to 15 families and will include private cat skiing on 60-plus cut runs spread across more than 1,950 acres; 950 of which are on Forest Service and BLM land.

Membership includes a 35-acre parcel to build a residence on as well as using the main lodge when visiting.  Members can book winter and summer weeks at the lodge and cabins through a lottery-type system.

There will be no winter access for automobiles to the lodge or homes.  All winter travel will take place on snow packed roads using snow machines.  The club plans to develop summer ammenities as well, with trails, climbing and trout-stocked lakes and streams.

Buy-in for the Cimarron Mountain Club starts between $3.2 million to $3.4 million with annual dues ranging from $55,000 to $65,000.

Six memberships have already been claimed and Aronstein expects the final nine memberships to be sold by spring.  He expects the lodge and cabins will be ready for the 2018-19 winter.
