The Village at WintergreenThe Village at Wintergreen – a new 196-unit housing community near Keystone broke ground this week.  Gorman & Company, Vail Resorts and Summit County will break on.  The community will offer a variety of housing types to accommodate a range of incomes.

The Village at Wintergreen was created with the efforts of various partners to help address the housing need in Summit County – creating housing opportunities for those who work in the community.

The complex is made up of one-bedroom and two-bedroom units and will be available only to those who work at least a 30-hours in Summit County.  There is no income limits for workforce residents and 120 of the units will be tied to a rental rate set at 100 percent of area median income.

Vail Resorts sees Wintergreen as a step to help to address Summit County’s employee housing issue.  Vail Resorts is committed to partnering locally on the creative solutions to the community’s issue, and doing so in a way that supports local workforce.

The Village at Wintergreen Project Breakdown

The partnership between developer Gorman & Company, Vail Resorts and Summit County started the project.  The county provided a $300,000 loan in support of The Village at Wintergreen.  The Summit Combined Housing Authority helped by enabling a property tax exemption for a portion of the project.  The partnerships were vital in the project’s application for 9 percent low-income housing tax credits from the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority, allowing 40 units of the complex to be designed for local workers earning between 30 and 60 percent area median income.

Another 36 units of the project will help to address the need for seasonal workforce housing.  Vail Resorts own and lease those units to meet seasonal employee housing at Keystone Resort.
