The Breckenridge Town Council has approved the construction of a multi-level parking structure in downtown Breckenridge. Parking in Breckenridge has been a point of concern as the town has continued rapid growth over the years. The proposed structure will be grounded above F-lot and is expected to reduce traffic issues within the town. No specifics have been released regarding the exact dollar amount needed to complete the project at this time.
The proposal was approved during the spring municipal retreat on May 12th and no dates or deadlines have been implemented. Two different parking structures were introduced, a three level structure with two underground and one above ground levels and a four levels structure with two underground and two above ground levels. The projected developments would add anywhere from 511 – 941 additional parking spaces to the heart of downtown Breckenridge!
“We are indebted to the task force for their commitment over the past 6-plus months,” said Breckenridge Mayor John Warner. “The council recognizes the parking structure will go a long way towards addressing the congestion issues and will result in a better customer experience. Our next steps are to engage the community in this process and to work with the ski area on funding options for the structure.”
The new parking structure aims to be non-intrusive for the surrounding businesses with little obstruction of views. Additional plans that have been approved include metered parking plans for the downtown area of Breckenridge and additional Free Ride transportation routes that run more frequently throughout town! Town Council invites the public to share their opinions over the next few months before any definite plans are established. Gatherings will be held to discuss the parking structure design, funding and time restrictions!
